In a stunning display of marksmanship, the Indian trio of Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, and Rhythm Sangwan clinched the gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol team event at the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, China. India secured a total score of 1759, narrowly edging out China, who took home the silver with 1756 points. The Republic of Korea secured the bronze medal with a score of 1742.

Manu Bhaker, with an outstanding qualification round score of 590, led the Indian team to victory. Esha Singh also put up a strong performance, finishing fifth in the qualification round with a score of 586. Unfortunately, Rhythm Sangwan, despite a respectable score of 583, missed out on the final as only two shooters per country are allowed to compete in the finals.

The Indian team recorded a total score of 1759, securing the top spot on the podium. China claimed the silver medal with a score of 1756, while the Republic of Korea settled for bronze with a score of 1742. Manu Bhaker’s exceptional performance in the qualification round, where she scored 590, played a pivotal role in securing the gold for India. Additionally, the women’s 10-metre air rifle team, consisting of Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal, and Ashi Chouksey, secured a silver medal. Ramita Jindal also earned a bronze medal in the women’s 10-metre air rifle individual event, while Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar claimed bronze in the men’s 10-metre air rifle individual event.
The men’s 25-metre rapid-fire pistol team, comprising Adarsh Singh, Vijayveer Sidhu, and Anish Bhanwala, added another bronze medal to India’s tally. With this victory in the women’s 25m pistol team event, India’s medal count at the Asian Games 2023 has now reached an impressive 16 medals, including four golds, five silvers, and seven bronzes.
Earlier, during the qualification round of the women’s 25m pistol team event, the Indian trio of Esha Singh, Manu Bhaker, and Rhythm Sangwan displayed exceptional skills, securing the top position with a total of 876 points. China and Chinese Taipei secured the second and third positions, respectively.
Manu Bhaker’s outstanding performance in the women’s 25m pistol qualification precision round placed her at the top of the leaderboard with 294 points, ahead of China’s Sixuan Feng. Esha Singh finished third in the qualification round with a score of 292, while Rhythm Sangwan secured the 11th position with a score of 290.
The combined score of the Indian trio, 876 points, propelled India to the first position in the team event. China closely followed with 874 points. Manu Bhaker, a gold medalist at the World Championships, displayed remarkable consistency in the 25m pistol women’s qualification precision event, averaging 9.800. Esha Singh averaged 9.733 in the same event.
Manu Bhaker’s scores of 99, 97, and 98 in the three rounds outshone the Chinese shooter’s scores of 96, 98, and 98. Esha Singh achieved scores of 96, 98, and 98, while the Vietnamese player scored 97, 99, and 96, resulting in a total of 292.
